FWIW, I just noticed that UMR2 select 6 & 7 appear to be bridged with solder in your photo.

the green ones are working correctly. the red ones are missing.
iŽll give it another try on the weekend.

could it make a difference where on the circuit board i connect the lines?

yes it really looks like it is bridged on the photo, but its not. i doublechecked all connections for shorths with an connection tester.

Where on the host PCB? No. It shouldn't make a difference.

You might go back again and disconnect everything except for 1 select x 6 data lines. Repeat the UMR2 setup procedure for just those 6 keys.

Then try connecting a second select line and repeat the UMR2 setup procedure. See if you can get 12 keys working perfectly.

Then repeat the setup procedure each time you connect additional select line. This will help you to isolate which lines are the problem.
